When Anne Dattilo attended a guest lecture at the University of Texas she had no idea it would be
the start of a journey involving complex algorithms, a space telescope breaking down in orbit,
a trip to an observatory in the Chihuahuan desert and, finally, the discovery of two new planets.

‘Anne’s Story’ became a film idea after Creative Lab found an article on discovering planets with machine learning. I began writing the creative treatment for the live action side in order to craft a story that was visually epic whilst remaining true to the science and celebrating Anne’s discovery. To bring the vision to life I worked with storyboard artist Kathryn Pinker and composer David Kamp to create a foundational animatic film.

We then set off on a 4 day shoot in Texas, first at McDonald Observatory
in the middle of the Chihuahuan Desert and later at The University of
Texas in Austin where I interviewed Anne about her journey to
discover two new planets. Once we were back in London I began
to lay out the edit and cut a 3 minute film for release.
